After a few teases, Crytek has finally officially revealed the Crysis Remastered Trilogy. This enhanced bundle of Crysis, Crysis 2, and Crysis 3 will make its way to the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC at some unspecified date in fall 2021. While this is being marketed mainly as a bundle, all three games will be available separately as well. Pricing is also still unknown, but Crysis Remastered, which came out in October 2020, currently sells for $30.
The bundle is not natively coming to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, but it will have nebulous enhancements for those playing the games on their new consoles through backwards compatibility. Crysis Remastered eventually got three modes on non-Nintendo consoles — quality mode, ray-tracing mode, and performance mode — so it’s possible that the other two games will have similar settings. All three targeted 60 frames per second, but at different resolutions and capabilities of actually holding that frame rate.
PC owners have always had the ability to play the Crysis games, but the remastered bundle was a little different than its original release. Crysis Remastered had global illumination, ray tracing, depth of field, higher quality textures, and an 8K mode. Crysis Remastered was also only on the Epic Games Store and it’s unclear if the remastered bundled will continue these trends for the other two titles.
Project Lead Steffen Halbig gave a brief quote on the Crysis Remastered Trilogy.
“We’re excited to announce that these iconic Crysis games are returning in one bundle, remastered for a new generation of hardware,” Halbig said. “Each game is enhanced to look and play beautifully on today’s platforms, delivering the finest Crysis experience for both newcomers to our classic franchise or players wishing to relive the adventure.”
Studios don’t often remaster just one entry of a series so the Crysis Remastered Trilogy seemed inevitable. The official Crysis Twitter account began teasing the second game on May 20 and then started hinting at Crysis 3 in the following week. Despite the resurgence of the showpiece shooter, there have been no rumblings of a fourth entry.
