The recently-released Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster appears to be missing the iconic “Developer’s Room” that was included in previous versions of the game, including the original.
Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster launched last week. This pricey set of revamped RPGs was detailed during Square Enix Presents 2021 and we later learned that these games would gradually roll out starting in Summer 2021. The fourth game of this franchise has finally debuted, but a report from a Japanese gamer shows that it might be missing a pretty cool Easter Egg from the originals.

Why the Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster is Missing the Developer’s Room
The Developer’s Room — also referred to as the Developer’s Office — is a secret location hidden within the pub in the Dwarven Castle. It features over a dozen characters representing the original developers of the game, each of whom has a special message for the player. As the wiki page reports, a note on the door mentions that it has been “abandoned” in Pixel Remaster.
It’s a pretty cool Easter Egg, so it’s somewhat strange to find that it’s missing from the newest version of the game. Most of the many versions of Final Fantasy 4 included this Easter Egg with only two exceptions: the North American SNES version of the game and the Japan-exclusive Easy Type release (which was a port of the American release). Now, the Pixel Remaster has apparently been added to the list. It’s unclear why it was removed from the newest release of this title. Unlike content removed from some of the other versions, this was not bonus stuff added in later versions, instead originating in the first original release of the game, and keeping it would presumably fit with the goal of creating an experience that matches the original release.
Although the lack of this Easter Egg is somewhat disappointing, there’s still plenty of fun to be had with the revival of this classic JRPG. You can buy Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster via its official website for $17.99 or your regional equivalent.
