Final Fantasy XIV Continues To Impress As It Reaches 24 Million Players

The hits seem to never stop coming with Final Fantasy XIV. Four years ago the game reached 10 million players, with the game hitting 16 and then 18 million players in 2019. Now the game has hit 24 million players and is now the most profitable Final Fantasy game of all time, and it still looks as though it hasn’t hit its peak yet.

What’s interesting is that there was no great marketing push for Final Fantasy XIV. The biggest push was through word of mouth, primarily through MMORPG players leaving the still-imploding World of Warcraft, which has and is still receiving changes that have been almost universally reviled by its players. It’s seemingly the complete opposite for Final Fantasy XIV, which Naoki Yoshida explained to IGN:

“You all know just how hard things were for us with the original Final Fantasy 14,” Yoshida told IGN. “Since then, we were able to transform the title into one that provides a major contribution to our company’s profits.”

Yoshida then went on to say that Final Fantasy 14 is the most profitable title in the Final Fantasy series. “It’s perhaps unbecoming of me to say but in terms of our business, we’ve been able to achieve great success. Moving forward, we’re going to spare no expense with our investments to ensure that this game continues to be one which our players can enjoy.”

Yoshida also went on to explain during a presentation that Final Fantasy XIV won’t end with its next expansion. Apparently, the next ten years of the title are plotted out at Square Enix. That’s a lot, but given that successful MMORPG’s usually have an extremely long shelf life that’s not too unusual.

For more information as Final Fantasy XIV, especially as its latest expansion, Endwalker, launches on November 23, 2021, be sure to stay tuned to TechRaptor for more details.

Thanks, IGN.
