Pokemon GO RegisteelRegisteel

Best Registeel counters are Chandelure, Moltres, Entei, Heatran, Blaziken and Charizard. Registeel counters are heavily based its Fire-type weakness, but you can use Fighting and Ground type counters as well.

Registeel Raid Boss is a Generation 3 Tier 5 Legendary Raid Boss with a Combat Power of 33516 and a large number of viable counters. This page describes best Registeel counters in Pokemon GO, fight strategy, ranks Registeel moves and provides a Registeel raid IV / CP chart. You can capture Registeel in the following CP ranges:

  • 1326 – 1398 CP at Lvl 20, 100% IV Registeel
  • 1658 – 1748 CP during Snow weather, at Lvl 25, 100% IV Registeel

Registeel is a Steel type Pokemon and it’s recommended to have at least 5-6 Trainers in order to take it down, although the challenge seekers can attempt a trio win. You can read more about Registeel in our Registeel family guide.

Registeel Counters

Registeel counters are strong Fire and Fighting Pokemon, with preference for those who take reduced damage from Registeel’s moves.

Pokemon GO ChandelureChandelure

Chandelure is the best Fire type you can have in this fight, with insanely good DPS and resistances to most Registeel moves. If you have a Chandelure, don’t be shy – put it to good use here.

Pokemon GO MoltresMoltres

One of the best Registeel counters, takes reduced or neutral damage from all Registeel attacks, deals a metric ton of damage, and boasts the fastest neutral weather time to win. Remember that Moltres is Flying / Fire, which means it takes reduced damage from Fighting attacks as well.

Pokemon GO EnteiEntei

Entei performs excellent against Registeel, trading #1 place with Moltres in various match ups, but honestly, it really doesn’t matter. Both Moltres and Entei perform incredibly well against the Regi!

Pokemon GO HeatranHeatran

Heatran is a new great counter for Registeel, being a close 3rd to Moltres and Entei. It hits fairly hard and pretty quickly, and has the Steel typing to resist some of Registeel’s attacks.

Pokemon GO CharizardCharizard

Charizard is essentially a budget version of Moltres. We know that you read that a thousand times before, but it’s true – Charizard can do everything that Moltres can, just a wee bit worse. Great pick non the less.

Pokemon GO BlazikenBlaziken

Blaziken is a great union of Fighting- and Fire-type moves and it shines versus Registeel. Combining Counter with Blast Burn is great, as it generates energy quickly and unlocks the option to spam BBs all raid long. Nice!

Registeel moves

Picking Registeel counters is simple due to its mono-Steel typing (which enables exploiting three common weaknesses) and a lack of surprises in its movepool. Registeel can have the following moves:

Fast moves Charge moves
  • Metal Claw Steel
  • Rock Smash Fighting
  • Lock On Normal
  • Flash Cannon Steel
  • Focus Blast Fighting
  • Hyper Beam Normal

Overall, Registeel is an easy Raid Boss to beat and rather disappointing for a legendary raid. It’s low CP and low stats (bar defense) make it an easy target for all of its counters, especially once you realize that it is unable to do much damage to its direct counters.

Arguably the “safest” counter to Registeel is Entei, who resists all Registeel’s Steel moves  and can do heavy damage to Registeel with Overheat. However, we prefer using high DPS Fire types that don’t usually get a lot of usage. Groudon is a beast against Registeel, utilizing double Ground moveset to inflict ridiculous damage.

Weather Effects

The best overall weather to smack a Registeel in is Sunny, as it boosts none of its moves and makes the Super Effective Fire and Ground moves do their job. One can attempt to put out the Machamp Army in Cloudy however it will boost its Rock Smash and Focus Blast, and so help you if you try and take it down in Snow with its double Steel moveset.
